Mail Development
The history of the Anguilla post is connected with British colonial administration, and in 1952, as a result of the annexation of Anguilla to the islands of St. Christopher (St. Kitts) and Nevis, a district ("presidency") of the colony of the British Leeward Islands was created . Since 1952, original stamps with inscriptions were in circulation here: English. Saint Christopher, Nevis, Anguilla (St. Christopher, Nevis, Anguilla); English "Postage & Revenue" ("Postage and stamp duty"). Later, stamps with the inscription English were also used . “The West Indies Federation” . A total of 54 postage stamps were issued [2] .
In the 1960s, Anguilla was part of the British colony of . On February 27, 1967, the islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis received associated status, and the island of Anguilla declared itself independent. From this moment, an independent postal service began to develop here [1] .
Further development of postal services was due to the fact that since 1976, internal self-government was introduced in Anguilla, and in 1980 it became a self-governing British territory [1] .
Stamp Issues
First Marks
Anguilla's first own postage stamps issued in September 1967 were Saint Kitts, Nevis and Anguilla postage stamps with an overprint of the text: "Independent Anguilla" ("Independent Anguilla") [1] . However, due to the limited supply of postage stamps for the production of overprints, the sale of postage stamps was controlled by the postmaster, and no orders from philatelic dealers were accepted. The circulation of such brands was only from one hundred to three thousand copies [1] .
Subsequent Issues
Later, in the same 1967, the first postage stamps of original drawings [1] [3] were issued without an overprint of the famous sights of Anguilla, such as the Sombrero lighthouse, etc. [3]
In 1968, a number of postal issues were made: Anguilla ships, Anguilla birds, the 35th anniversary of the Anguillan Girl Guides, and the Christmas issue .
In 1969, the first issue was dedicated to the salt industry of Anguilla, but in the same year, British control over Anguilla was restored, and on July 7, 1969, the post office of Anguilla was officially recognized by the government of Saint Kitts and Nevis and in January of the following year issued an official release, noting independence of Anguilla [3] .
In 1968, the first commemorative issue of this territory appeared, and in 1973, the first postal block [1] .
A large number of thematic issues of Anguilla came out [1] .
