The 47th Canadian Women's Curling Championships 2006 ( 2006 Scott Tournament of Hearts ) was held in London ( Ontario ) from February 25 to March 6, 2006 . In Ontario, the championship was held for the 10th time, in London for the 2nd time (before that, the 1986 championship was held there). [1] [2]

The winner received the right to represent Canada (as the “Team of Canada”; English Team Canada ) at the 2006 World Championships , which took place in March 2006 in the city of Grand Prairie ( Canada ), as well as to compete under this name at the next Canadian Championship in 2007.
The tournament was attended by 12 teams: 11 teams representing the provinces and territories of Canada , and the winning team of the previous championship 2005 (as the “team of Canada”).
The champion (the 9th time in the history of the championships) was a team representing the province of British Columbia ( skip Kelly Scott ; for the team this was the first victory in the championships), having won in the final against the “Canadian team” (skip Jennifer Jones ). 3-4 places were shared by the other two play-off teams representing the provinces of Nova Scotia (Skip Colin Jones ) and Quebec (skip Ève Bélisle).
This was the last championship held under the name " Scott Tournament of Hearts"; since the next championship, its name has been changed to " Scotties Tournament of Hearts".
During the tournament, the 25th anniversary of the women's curling championship of Canada was celebrated under the general name “Tournament of Hearts” ( Rus. Heart Tournament ), preceded by the brand name of the company, which is the general sponsor of the championship [3] ; The first championship draw under this name took place in 1982 .
Content
Competition Format
At the first, group stage, 12 teams play among themselves in a circular system in one circle. The four best teams of the group stage go to the second stage, playoffs , where they play according to the Page system : the two best teams according to the results of the group round hold a match for a direct hit in the finals (playoffs-1). The 3rd and 4th teams play for reaching the semifinals (playoffs-2). In the semifinals, there is a loser in the first match and a winner in the second. In the finals, gold awards are disputed by the winners of the playoffs and semifinals. The third place is considered to be the team that lost in the playoffs-2, and the team that lost in the semifinals.
