Trasimeno ( French Trasimène ) - the administrative unit of the First French Empire , located on part of the lands of the modern Italian provinces of Viterbo , Perugia , Terni , Macerata . The department is named after Lake Trasimen . The department was founded in 1809 when the papal region was annexed by France. It was disbanded after the defeat of Napoleon I in 1814. At the Congress of Vienna, the Papal Region was restored and returned to Pope Pius VII .

The department was divided into the following districts and cantons (as of 1812):
- Spoleto district, cantons: Arquata , Porridge , Norcia , Spoleto (2 cantons), Terni (2 cantons) and Vissot .
- Foligno district, cantons: Assisi , Betton , Bevagna , Foligno , Gualdo , Montefalco , Nocera , Spello and Trevi .
- district of Perugia , cantons: Castiglione del Lago , Citta della Pieve , Citta di Castello , Fratta , Monte Santa Maria , Panicale , Passignano and Perugia (3 cantons).
- Todi County, cantons: Aquapendente , Amelia , Basques , Ficulle , Marchiano , Massa , Orvieto and Todi (2 cantons).
The population of the department in 1812 was approximately 300 thousand people, and its area totaled 11,120 square kilometers.
