History
In the XVI century. on the part of the territory of the current Lenin Square there was the Zhitny Dvor, a wall fenced territory adjacent to the Kremlin . Over time, the fortifications fell into disrepair and were demolished. In honor of the arrival of Alexander II , a garden was laid at this place. It was called Alexandrovsky Boulevard.
After the revolution, the garden was named "Olympus". By the 400th anniversary of Astrakhan, it was decided to create the main city square on this site. In 1958, the creation of the square was completed, it had seven fountains and a tribune, and a monument to V.I. Lenin was erected in the center of the square.
By the 450th anniversary of Astrakhan, the square was reconstructed according to the project of architects from St. Petersburg. A cover was made of light granite rocks in harmony with the white walls of the Astrakhan Kremlin, and the square was decorated with small architectural forms. Its main attraction is the Neva-Volga fountain complex of 7 fountains, of which the two largest fountains - Neva and Volga, are located at the ends of the square.
Buildings
In the post-war years, an architectural ensemble of residential buildings in the Stalinist style was created along the square.
