Slipak, Vasily Yaroslavovich

Vasily was born in Lviv on December 20, 1974 ^{[9] [10]} in the family of Nadezhda and Yaroslav Slipakov. From 1981 to 1991 he studied at the Lviv school number 46 ^[11] .

Dudarik Choir Chapel

In 1983, his elder brother Orest took him ^[12] to the Lviv State Academic Men's Choir Chapel “Dudarik” , where Vasily sang ^[13] until 1994. ^[fourteen]

The repertoire was based on the works of Ukrainian composers of the second half of the XVIIth - the first half of the XVIIIth century, namely: concerts of Dmitry Bortnyansky , Artemy Vedel , Maxim Berezovsky ; Christmas carols in the processing of Ukrainian composers - Nikolai Lysenko , Nikolai Leontovich , Cyril Stetsenko , Alexander Kosits . “Dudarik” was also performed by “Stabat Mater” by J. Pergolesi , “ Carmina Burana ” by K. Orff , Requiem of V. A. Mozart , IX Symphony by L.V. Beethoven , III Symphony by Kaddiss (“Kaddish”) L. Bernstein and other oratorios works.

Vasily Slipak as a member of the choir chapel performed in the most prestigious concert halls of Ukraine and the world: the National Opera of Ukraine named after Taras Shevchenko , the National Philharmonic of Ukraine , the National Palace of Arts "Ukraine" , Carnegie Hall ( New York , USA , 1990) Notre Dame Cathedral ( France ), Vancouver Air Place ( Canada , 1990), Warsaw Philharmonic Society ( Poland , 1991, 1992, 1994), Dome Cathedral ( Latvia , Riga ), as well as in Lithuania , Estonia (1987, 1991), Belarus , Russia , Georgia , Moldova , Hungary , Slovakia (1993, 1994), Austria (1993), Italy , Vatican , Belgium , Goll India , Switzerland (1993). ^[fifteen]

Dudarik has recorded a number of phonograph records , compact cassettes and compact discs , as well as dozens of concert programs on radio and television. In 1989 ^{[16] the} team was awarded the Shevchenko Prize .

Kapela “Dudarik” took part in joint concerts with leading performers. May 19, 1985 ^[17] on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the birth of I.S. Bach in the Lviv Regional Philharmonic Society , a joint concert was held of "Dudarika" with Lyudmila Bozhko ( soprano ), People's Artist of Ukraine Natalia Svoboda ( mezzo-soprano ), deserved artist of Ukraine, Vladimir Ignatenko ( tenor ), Honored Artist of Ukraine.

With Nina Matvienko , People's Artist of Ukraine, there were not only joint performances ^[17] , but also sound recordings for Ukrainian radio ^[18] .

As part of the VI World Youth Day on August 20, 1991 ^[19] in the city of Czestochowa ( Poland ), Pope John Paul II attended the concert of the Dudarik chapel. ^[19]

Student years

Despite his rare voice ( countertenor ), he did not immediately enter the Lviv Higher State Music Institute named after N.V. Lysenko (now the Lviv National Music Academy named after Nikolai Lysenko ). It was only in 1992 that he became a student of the solo singing class of the People's Artist of Ukraine (1979), laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine (1976), Professor Baiko Maria Yakovlevna ^[20] , under whose leadership he mastered a significant repertoire of works by Ukrainian and Western European composers. He performed the parts of Alkida from the opera of the same name by Dmitry Bortnyansky and Swan in “ Carmine Buran ” by Karl Orff ^[21] . Studying at the institute (1992-1996), ^[14] continued his concert activities. Performed works by J. Caccini , A. Falconieri , A. Scarlatti , A. Stephanie, A. Vivaldi , L. Vinci , A. Stradella , A. Lotti , V. A. Mozart , M. Berezovsky and other composers. He performed in the hall of the Solomiya Krushelnitskaya musical and memorial museum. ^[22]

He wrote down the chamber cantata ^{[23] of} Alexander Kozarenko for the countertenor ^[24] and the instrumental ensemble Pierrot Deadly. ^[25] The first performance took place in 1994 in Lviv . Vasily Slipak declared himself as a performer of modern music.

1994 the elder brother, a graduate student of the medical institute, being at the congress of cardiologists in France , met with the director of the weekly journal “Ukrainian Word”, doctor of medicine Yaroslav Musyanovich, who introduced Orest to a composer of Ukrainian origin Marian Kuzan. Brother left him a tape with a recording of Vasily. A month later, V. Slipak was invited to one of the largest music festivals in Clermont-Ferrand ( France ). ^[26] Basil prepared the Passion for Matthew , the Passion for John by Bach , and the cantata of G. F. Handel for the finished program. He performed in the original language German, French songs, Italian arias. ^[27] At the 10th International Television Grand Prix oratorio and song contest (1994) in Clermont-Ferrand ( France ), he was the only one who performed songs in his native language edited by L. Revutsky and N. Lysenko . Vasily Slipak received the Grand Prix of the competition and the Grand Prix of audience sympathy. ^[28]

Successful performance at the competition, listening to well-known specialists of the Paris Academy turned out to be decisive in the creative fate of the young singer. Vasily was granted the right to speak with his program in Paris. ^{[29] The} young baritone performed in 1994 with a solo concert in Vichy Opera ( France ) - the concert consisted of works of Ukrainian folk music. ^[28]

On October 3, 1994, in the framework of the Fifth International Ukrainian Music Festival “Kiev Music Fest 94”, in the hall of the House of Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, accompanied by the chamber orchestra “ARCHI” (conducted by Igor Andriyevsky), A. Pierre Kozarenko’s chamber cantata was performed. ^[thirty]

In April 1995, in Odessa, at the forty-eight-hour musical marathon of the First International Festival of Contemporary Art “Two Days and Two Nights of New Music” ^[31] in the presence of the president of the festival, Professor Bernhard Wulff, one of the recognized leaders of the “new music”, vice-rector of the Higher School of Music in Freiburg ( Germany ), performed the cantata of A. Kozarenko "Pierrot deadly." Success repeated, as in Lviv - the cantata sounded twice. ^[27]

In 1995, he participated in the V International Festival of Concert Art in илиilina ( Slovakia ), ^[32] where he performed a program from baroque arias accompanied by harpsichord. ^[27]

In the Lviv Hall of Organ and Chamber Music on December 8 and 10, 1995 ^{[33] the} choir (performer Yaroslav Gnatovsky) and the orchestra of the Lysenko Higher Music Institute “Perpetuum Mobile” (musical director and conductor - Georgy Pavliy) performed the opera Dido and Aeneas Henry Purcell . Among the soloists was a guest from the UK George Newton Fitzgerald in the role of Aeneas. ^[34] Vasily Slipak stood out among the soloists with his expressive manner of performance. ^[34] This was the first concert performance (in the original language) in Ukraine of the opera Dido and Aeneas by an English composer of the Baroque period . Vasily Slipak performed Yunga's aria.

The singer, besides his native, was fluent in many foreign languages: Italian, French, English, German, Polish, Russian.

In 1995 he performed works by J. S. Bach , V. A. Mozart , J. Haydn , J. Verdi , J. Bizet , J. Offenbach , I. Stravinsky , M. Mussorgsky , A. Borodin , Yu. Halperin, K. Orff "Bernauerin". ^[32]

Style

Vasily Slipak captivated the audience with a peculiar voice and vocal culture. He easily managed to capture the attention of the audience, amaze her, evoke the widest range of emotions in her - surprise, joy, delight. He was natural, artistic on stage.

Vasily was able to ensemble in the choir, but it was clear that he was a soloist. He was characterized by a culture of voice and perfect stage play, expressive diction, the freedom to use the mezza voce, and the skillful decomposition of dynamic effects. The singer was really carried away on stage. ^[29]

Slipak's unique voice was extremely harmoniously combined with his physique. He is tall, attractive in appearance, French gallant - all this caused an adequate reaction from the audience. ^[29]

School, culture, technology - this was above all for him. He proved himself to be a talented talented musician.

Voice

In "Dudarik" he sang treble and viola . The last four years (1990-1994) was a soloist in the chapel. ^[27]

Vasily Slipak had the practice of choral singing, and this is a high vocal technique, because the concerts performed works by D. Bortnyansky, Berezovsky, V. A. Mozart. During the training, the chapel was brought up and in many ways trained as a professional.

Nikolay Katsal , the head of the chapel, noted:

“I’m even afraid to qualify his voice with a certain term, because there probably isn’t such a thing.” (1995) ^[27]

Staying close to the mezzo-soprano timbre, he naturally grew baritone . Basil spoke baritone, and sang either baritone or mezzo-soprano , which is a unique phenomenon. The range of his voice - the sound volume reaches from a large octave to a la second octave - made it possible to perform male baritone parts, as well as high soprano, which is a rare occurrence in nature and vocal art. ^[29]

The music institute did not know how to work with such possibilities and properties of the voice, therefore they saw something pathological in this. ^[27] But Leonid Trinos, ^[35] a phoniatrist, found in Vasily unusually long vocal folds, which explains the natural beauty and originality of his voice. Studying at a music institute, in one person it was necessary to overcome two programs: as a countertenor and as a baritone. There was a danger of losing the nature of the voice, so it was impossible to take up science simultaneously across the entire range of the voice. Teacher Professor Baiko Maria Yakovlevna limited herself to the gradual stabilization of her voice. The training was carried out under the supervision of a doctor. In 1994, the German singer Margaret Schmil, who was on a tour in Lviv, after listening to Vasily, confirmed his outstanding vocal abilities and agreed with the same idea of ​​the correct development of the voice: first in the range of the countertenor, gradually increasing the development of baritone sound. ^[27]

Vasily Slipak, having such a unique voice, such an exceptional timbre, meticulously performed compositions that combined the sound of the countertenor and baritone - Dafenailo by Eric Satie and Carmine Buran by Karl Orff . ^[27]

After the victory in Clermont-Ferrand (1994), the French critic compared Vasily Slipak with the English star James Bowman. ^[29]

We can assume that it was France and its music lovers who discovered and recognized the phenomenon of the Ukrainian singer, who announced his interesting future in art.

“He gives exceptional, rare, unheard of singing. After the first year of study, Slipak established himself as a living vocal miracle. Many of the vocal professors dreamed at least once to work with him in their class. An extremely gifted sopranist, he has a subtle, skillfully unlimited, which simply drives him crazy - vibrato - full of powerful strength, it is not known how to fit in such a young singer. No one seems to be able to do that. It was to him that the audience gave their prize. ” (1994), La Montagne, France) ^[27]

With the possibilities of Vasily’s voice, a repertoire of the Baroque from the 17th-18th centuries was opened in front of him, which is why it is rarely performed, which requires special possession of singing and a special voice timbre. ^[27]

Cantata of Alexander Kozarenko “Pierrot Deadly” is a new music. According to the singer, her performance requires a lot of work to clearly hear the text. She is atonal, arrhythmic, very rarely melodic. Mostly instrumental. Therefore, such works are valuable, although difficult to perform - because they are not vocal, but music, that is, accompaniment, does not allow to clearly convey the text to the listener. ^[27]

Педагоги музыкального института, в частности, Стефания Павлишин, профессор, доктор искусствоведения, Александр Козаренко, украинский композитор, пианист, музыковед, считали, что Василию Слипаку, чтобы узнать эстетику и воспитание его необычного голоса, что может звучать в таких высоких регистрах, нужно было узкоспециализированное обучение в школах барокко , ренессанса . Вернувшись с фронта, продолжил волонтёрскую деятельность, давал благотворительные концерты в Украинском центре в Париже, помогал детям-сиротам.

Гибель

Летом 2016 года вновь убыл в Донбасс, где 29 июня 2016 года согласно данным украинской стороны, был убит выстрелом снайпера у посёлка Луганское под Донецком при отражении атаки на позиции ВСУ ^{[39] [40]} . По версии, распространяемой ДНР и СМИ РФ, Слипак погиб при провалившейся атаке Правого сектора на позиции ополчения у посёлка Логвиново ^[41] , где был найден бронежилет с его документами, оказавшимися в распоряжении ДНР ^[42] .

1 июля 2016 года похоронен во Львове на Лычаковском кладбище ^[43] .

20 февраля 2017 года указом Президента Украины Василию Слипаку посмертно присвоено звание Героя Украины ^[44] .

Международная некоммерческая благотворительная организация, основана 29 июня 2016. ^[79]

Базой для создания Фонда является собранное вокальное наследие Василия Слипака, которе научно исследуют и хранят в Львовском историческом музее.

Миссия: упорядочить, сохранить и донести до будущих поколений наследие певца, его размышления, его любовь к Украине.

Также одним из важных направлений деятельности является сохранение и развитие культурных ценностей и обеспечение всесторонней благотворительной поддержки.

Во Львовском историческом музее отдельным экспозиционным комплексом представлены материалы Василия Слипака, певца, солиста Парижской национальной оперы , который с началом боевых действий в Украине , жертвуя своим творческим, материальным и финансовым положением, присоединился к бойцам АТО. ^[81]

Мемориальная доска

14 октября 2016 года ^[82] торжественно открыли и освятили мраморную мемориальную доску , которая установлена на фасаде здания Львовской специализированной школы № 46 им. В. Черновола , где учился певец. ^[83] На доске надпись: «Выпускник школы. Певец. Патриот. Воин. Он любил Украину. Он жил для Украины. Он дарил миру свой талант с именем Украины и погиб за Украину. Его смерть — это важное завещание для грядущих поколений, это пример большой силы национального самосознания» . ^[84]
