Career
Club career
He started playing football at the Gremio club. In 1998, he made his debut in the first team of the club in official matches, and for two seasons in its composition took part in 38 games. In 1999 he became the champion of the state of Rio Grande do Sul . After leaving Gremio, he played for the teams of the lower divisions of Francan and Vila Nova .
In 2002 he moved to Coritiba , in its composition became the two-time champion of the state of Parana and participated in matches of the Libertadores Cup . For three and a half seasons he played 211 matches for the club in all tournaments.
In the summer of 2005, he signed a contract with the Portuguese club Unian Leiria , after the former main goalkeeper of the club, Brazilian Elton moved to Porto . As a member of Leiria, Fernando made his debut in the Portuguese Championship on September 11, 2005 in the game against Maritimo (0-0). In the first season, the goalkeeper did not play regularly, but since the summer of 2006 became the main goalkeeper of the club. In the 2006/07 season, he took seventh place with his team in the Portuguese championship and entered the Intertoto Cup , where he became the winner, in the same season he was recognized as the best player in the club. However, already in the next season, Leiria flew into the second division. Having played 14 matches in the second division in the fall of 2008, the goalkeeper facilitated the club’s return to the strongest class, but decided to return to Brazil during the winter break.
In 2009, the goalkeeper signed a contract with Vasco da Gama , which in that season for the first time in its history descended into Serie B. Fernando helped the team win the tournament and return to Serie A. In addition, Vasco da Gama missed the least goals in the championship. In 2011, he won the Brazil Cup as part of the club. In the same 2011, he was included in the symbolic national team of the Brazilian championship and received the Silver Ball as the best goalkeeper. Over four seasons, he played 248 matches for the club in all tournaments.
Since December 2012 he has been playing for Palmeiras [1] . In his first season, he helped the team win in Serie B. In 2015, he won the Brazil Cup, in the final match against Santos he repelled two penalty shoot-outs and was recognized as the best player of the meeting. April 3, 2016 in the game against Corinthians , he repelled a penalty, thanks to which Palmeiras was able to win the derby for the first time in 21 years [2] .

He played for the youth team of Brazil.
In 2016, the goalkeeper became part of the Brazilian Olympic team to participate in the home Olympic Games , as one of three football players over 23 years old, but shortly before the start of the competition he was forced to refuse to participate in them due to injury.
