Llanos ( Spanish: llanos , plural from llano - “ plain ”, from Latin planus - “flat”, “plain”) is the common name for some flat regions in places of intense Spanish colonization in America . They are tropical and subequatorial, less often subtropical steppes and savannas with clearly expressed seasonal moisture. Intensively used for cattle breeding, severely affected by water erosion .

Venezuela
Llanos is the most typical landscape of continental Venezuela, occupying about a third of the entire country and at the same time having only 10% of its population. In Venezuela, Llanos is a high-grass savannah on the wide flat banks of the Orinoco River and its tributaries with a dense cereal cover, sometimes reaching human height. Between cereals, asteraceae , legumes , labiaceae, and others grow.
Trees are either completely absent or found in a limited number, with the exception of only damp places where palm trees (in particular, Mauritius palm ( Corypha inermis )) and other plants form entire forests (however, these forests do not belong to savannahs). Solitary specimens of Roupala (trees from the proteus family ) and other trees are also sometimes found. During the wet season, llanos are flooded with water and fertilized with sludge .
Fauna
The animal world of Llanos, which has long become areas of extensive cattle breeding, is currently not as rich as it was before the advent of Europeans. Of the land inhabitants, capybaras , bakers , armadillos , anteaters , agoutis should be noted, from semi-aquatic - caimans , anacondas and electric eels . In less developed parts of the Orinoco Plain, there are jaguars , cougars , tapirs , and deer-mazam . Of the birds, herons , flamingos , tinamu , Andean ducks are common.
