History

Date of establishment not established. Originally called Kumsky . According to the List of populated areas of the Earth of the Don Army in 1859 there were 54 yards in the farm, 146 male and 153 female souls lived. The farm belonged to the yurt of the village of Kobylyanskaya of the Second Don region of the region Don troops [2] . In 1873, there were 82 yards in the farm and 296 male and 333 female souls lived [3] .

By 1915, there were 127 households in the farm; 404 male and 483 female souls lived [4] .

In 1920 , like other settlements of the Second Don District, the farm was included in the Tsaritsyn province . The farm was the administrative center of the Kumsky village council. In January 1935, the Kumsky village council was included in the Verkhne-Kurmoyarsky district of the Stalingrad Territory, in May of the same year it was transferred to the Voroshilovsky District of the Territory (since 1936 - the Stalingrad Region) [5] . By 1936, the name of the farm was changed to Verkhne-Kumsky (also Verkhne-Kumsky). In November 1959, the Kumsky village council was liquidated, the settlement became part of the Novo-Aksai village council. In November 1974 he was included in the Soviet Village Council [6] .

Geography

The farm is located in the steppe zone in the northwest of the Ergeninsky Upland , belonging to the East European Plain , with the Kumskaya beam (the left tributary of the Myshkova River) [7] , at an altitude of about 110 meters above sea level. The terrain is hilly-plain, complicated by beams and ravines. There is a pond in the Kumskaya beam [7] . The soil cover is complex: chestnut solonetzic and solonchak soils and solonetzes (automorphic) are widespread [8] .

By road, the distance to the regional center of Volgograd is 180 km, to the regional center of Oktyabrsky settlement - 28 km, to the administrative center of the rural settlement of Sovetsky settlement - 7 km [9] .

Climate

The climate is temperate continental with hot summers and little snow, sometimes with great cold, in winter (according to the Köppen climate classification, the climate is characterized as Dfa ). Air temperature has a pronounced annual course. The average annual temperature is positive and amounts to + 8.5 ° С, the average temperature in January is -6.7 ° С, in July +23.7 ° С. The estimated long-term rainfall rate is 382 mm, the highest rainfall occurs in June (41 mm) and December (39 mm), the least in March and October (24 mm each) [10] .
