- August 20 - The Battle of Yarmouk near Damascus , the defeat of the Byzantines.
- Summer - Khalif Omar Ibn Al-Khattab defeated the 40,000th Roman army on the banks of Yarmouk , captured Phenicia and marched against Jerusalem . Arabs crossed the Jordan River and set up camp in Jericho. The inhabitants of Jerusalem sent church shrines to Constantinople and surrendered to the Arabs. The Arabs divided the army into three parts. One is directed against Egypt, the other is against Syria, the third is against Persia.
