In 1925 he was elected Secretary General of the Labor Party. Member of the Polish Sejm in 1927-1935 Ambassador to the USSR ( Moscow ) from July 1936 until September 17, 1939 , when the USSR launched an invasion of Poland.
As ambassador, he was called to the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs and received a note on breaking agreements between the USSR and Poland. Refused to take note [1] and then emigrated.
After an unsuccessful attempt to challenge diplomatic immunity from the authorities of the USSR, in October 1939 he left the USSR together with other Polish diplomats after the direct intervention of the dean of the diplomatic corps in Moscow, the Third Reich Ambassador Friedrich von Schulenburg and the Italian Ambassador Augusto Rosso.
During the war he lived in France, in the occupied part. Died in Paris, buried in the Cemetery in Montmorency .
