Biography
Christian M'Pumbu was born on June 2, 1977 in Kinshasa , Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo ) [1] .
He began performing in MMA on a professional level since 2004, and fought mainly in European promotions such as KSW and M-1 Global . He spent several fights in the Ukrainian fighting tournaments “Fire of Relight” and “Star of Relight”, where he twice won the “eights” in the absolute weight category.
In 2007, he marked a victory over the Dutchman Stefan Struve , the future long-term veteran of the world's largest UFC promotion. In 2008, he met with Pole Jan Blahovic , future multiple KSW champion, but lost to him with the elbow lever. In 2010, he fought two fights at tournaments of the Japanese organization Deep in Tokyo, in the quarterfinal of the light heavyweight championship, Yuji Sakuragi defeated Yuziyuki Nakanishi by a separate decision in the semi-final by a separate decision.
With fifteen victories and only three defeats on the track record, in 2011, M'Pumbu attracted the attention of the major American promotion Bellator MMA and became a participant in the fourth season of the light heavyweight grand prix. Such fighters as Chris Davis, Tim Carpenter and Richard Hale respectively defeated in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals, respectively, having won the vacant organization title in the light heavyweight category and became the first African champion among all the largest fighting promotions. At the end of 2011, he lost by unanimous decision to Travis Wiouf, although his champion title in this battle was not at stake.
In 2012, he held the first and only defense of the title, losing by unanimous decision to the Slovak Hungarian-born Attila Vegu . I had to fight on Bellator 99 with Belarusian UFC veteran Vladimir Matyushenko , but shortly before the start of the tournament I injured my arm and was replaced by Houston Alexander . In February 2014, as part of the tenth season of the light heavyweight grand prix, he met Quinton Jackson and was knocked out in the first round. Despite three defeats in a row, he soon gained the right to a challenger fight with Kendall Grove , however, he could not realize this chance, in the second round he became a victim of a strangulation from behind and was forced to give up [2] .
After leaving Bellator, Christian M'Pumbu continued his career as a fighter in less prestigious promotions. So, in 2015 in France, he knocked out Russian sambo wrestler Ramis Teregulov , in 2016 at a tournament in Switzerland he lost by technical knockout to Denis Stoinich.
