Taking advantage of the weakening of the Seleucid state during the war with Egypt, the governors of Parthia and Bactria, Arsak and Diodot , declared their independence. Then Antiochus had to suppress the rebellions and for this purpose in 250 BC Antiochus II began to ask for peace from Egypt, which was granted to him, but subject to marriage to Berenice. Antiochus II was already married to Laodice I , then he divorced the latter and married Berenice. However, the marriage was short-lived after the death of Ptolemy Philadelphus in 246 BC. Antiochus left Berenice and returned to his first wife, who poisoned him. At the same time, legitimate pretenders to the throne - Berenice and her son Antiochus (from Antiochus II) were killed in Antioch.
