The volunteer sector , or the volunteer sector , or the public sector (including the non-profit sector) is a sphere of social activity in which non-profit [1] and non-governmental organizations are involved.
This sector is also called the “third sector”, along with the public and private sectors . Another synonym is the “civil sector”, emphasizing its connection with civil society .
The presence of a large developed public sector is sometimes considered as an indicator of the health of the economy on a local and national scale [2] . With the growing number of non-profit organizations focused on social services, environmental protection, education, and other unmet needs of society, the non-profit sector is becoming increasingly crucial for the health and well-being of society [3] . According to economist Peter Drucker , the non-profit sector provides excellent implementation of various skills of work and society [4] .
