Story

A graduate of the Venus "Vi" Delmonico school needs to find money for college. She receives an invitation to participate in a video game called “Nerve,” in the manner of the game “ Truth or Dare? ”. In the world of online reality shows, “players” fulfill the desires of “observers,” on which they earn in proportion to the dangers of tasks. According to the rules of the game, in case of refusal to complete the next task or an attempt to inform law enforcement authorities, all earned funds will not be paid to the player. In one of the rounds, Vee encounters Yen. An attractive couple is quickly becoming popular and the "watchers" require Vee and Ian to complete tasks together. The game gradually escalates and the next task becomes a threat to their lives.

Production

The directors Ariel Schulman and Henry Just previously considered a similar topic in the documentary " How I was friends on a social network " [5] . Drawing attention to an Internet- based film, they said: “Most things are not black and white. The Internet is neither good nor bad - it just depends on how you use it ” [6] . They cited the Nerve game as an example, describing it as “a truly conducive game, and this is the worst thing you can imagine” [6] . When creating the film, the directors sought a rating of PG-13. Schulman stated: “We wanted to make sure that young teens can see it. We think he has an important message and they will dig into it, ”and Just added:“ We were not interested in creating a rude film about torture ” [6] . The film has a lighter ending and theme than a book, because the novel has a darker plot and ending. The creators said that the rapidly changing nature of the Internet makes it difficult to narrate, and Just notes that the Periscope application appeared during the development of the film, which he called "half like Nerve" [5] .

In January 2015, it became known that Emma Roberts and Dave Franco will play the main roles in the film [7] . In April 2015, it was announced that Kimiko Glenn and Colson Baker (MGK) had joined the cast [8] [9] .

The main shootings began on April 13, 2015 in New York [10] [11] and ended on June 5, 2015 [12] [13] .
