Grand Hermine

Grand Hermine (Grande Ermine) is a ship ( karraka ) on which on June 15, 1536, Jacques Cartier reached the banks of the present Saint Pierre and Miquelon , exploring the mouth of the St. Lawrence River and the Laurentian Iroquois settlement in Stadakon (next to modern Quebec ). In addition to the flag of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, the ship is also depicted in the Canadian en: Amory Adventure Award , which is received by Canadian scouts.

Copies

A full-size wooden copy of the ship was presented at Expo 67 in Montreal (1967) and was used as a restaurant on the water. At the end of the exhibition, a copy of the ship was transported to Quebec and installed in an artificial reservoir in a city park, where it was located for about 30 years. The condition of the ship was poorly monitored and ultimately left it abandoned in the same park. [one]

Another copy of the ship made of steel was built between 1914 and 1941 and was supposed to be used as an icebreaker, but could not be used [2] , and was later acquired by a businessman and transported to Ontario , where it also became a restaurant. However, in this capacity she did not serve for a long time and was soon abandoned due to lack of funds. [3] In 2003, an abandoned ship burned down, probably as a result of arson. Burnt wreckage of the ship is still between the 55th and 57th kilometers in the bay of Queen Elizabeth.
