Born in Saratov [1] in the family of a college assessor [2] .

Service

From 1873 to 1878 he studied at the Naval College . On April 30, 1877, by order of His Imperial Highness the Admiral General, along with other pupils, he was promoted to midshipman and released from school [3] . August 30, 1878 was promoted to warrant officer . He graduated from the naval training and shooting team in 1879. He served in the training and artillery detachment of the Baltic Fleet on the armored frigate " Admiral Chichagov " and the gunboat " Cloud " [1] until 1884 [2] . Then the “Cruiser” moved to the port of Peter and Paul (now Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky ), where Anatoly Avgustovich together with the crew was involved in the construction of the lighthouse. In August, cruising in the Bering and Chukchi Seas, then an expedition to the shores of Chukotka , during which on August 26, during the hydrographic work, the Ugolnaya Bay was discovered and named [4] .
