The Central Library of the Slovak Academy of Sciences ( Slovak Ústredná knižnica Slovenskej akadémie vied ) is a scientific library , the main library of the Slovak Academy of Sciences , the central library of the library and information network of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, its specialized branch. The library fund consists of books , periodicals and other documentation for all scientific disciplines and language areas, encyclopedic literature, multidisciplinary literature, university textbooks, scientific works published by the Slovak Academy of Sciences, as well as fiction. " [3] At the end of 2013 in The library's collection included 558,991 storage units, the library had 4,640 registered users, 72,315 visitors, 50 562 pieces of material were handed out. History
The library has its current name since April 1954. [1] It manages the funds of libraries founded earlier: the Library of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and Arts (1942–1953), the Library of the Slovak Scientific Society (1938–1942), the Library of the Schafarik Scientific Society (1926–1928), and the Lyceum Library ( library of the Evangelical Lyceum, funds from the beginning of the XVII century ). [1] The library also runs: the foundation of the Bratislava Society of Naturalists and Physicians founded in 1856 (partially), the foundation of the former Bratislava Hungarian Society for Science, Literature and Art, the foundation of the former Library of the Slovak National Council and the Library of the former Czechoslovak-Soviet Institute. [1] In 1953, the Slovak Academy of Sciences was established, to which funds of the previously existing main library of the Slovak Academy of Science and Art in the amount of 70,000 units were transferred. The library since 1954 has the name: Central Library of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. " [1]
Library Fund
Since 1947, the Central Library of the Slovak Academy of Sciences has the right to receive one obligatory copy of books published in the territory of Slovakia, until 1992 - in the territory of Czechoslovakia. The library exchanges publications with the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic . The library is subscribed to over 800 periodical publications, of which 200 are foreign. Since 1994, World Bank publications have been transferred to the library, and since 2001, publications of the International Monetary Fund . [3] The library also houses a collection of historical books and manuscripts of the 16th – 19th centuries . The collection of the Lyceum Library of Bratislava is also part of the historical foundation. The library has several reading rooms and warehouses. [3] In 1984, the library kept 1.7 million bibliographic units of material.
In 2013, the library received 6,678 new units of books and 889 titles of periodicals from other cities. [2]
Services
The library provides services for the issuance of stock material within 55 hours a week (250 days a year - 2013 information). [2] In addition to the basic services, special services were provided for scientific staff of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, for example, international interlibrary services for the issuance of materials, long-term issuance of materials, the ability to use external electronic information resources, distribution of periodicals received in the course of international exchange, services on material search, methodological and educational services and consultations. " [2]
