These villages are located in the vicinity of the cities of Veleni and Krzyижa Wielkopolski - on the left bank of the Notets River and in the vicinity of the city of Vronka - on the right bank of the Warta River [2] .

Origin

As a special sub-ethnic group of Velen Mazury, it was characterized in the past and partly characterized by pronounced dialectic differences, cultural and everyday features, a common self-name and awareness of its isolation among other groups of Poles. The latter characteristic is expressed, in particular, in the existence among the Velenian Masuria of a tradition about their common origin and history. According to traditional ideas, Velen Mazury were resettled in the northern regions of Greater Poland for the development of uninhabited forest areas in the second half of the 17th century from Mazovia by the heir of the “Great Poland state” Peter Sapega. The emergence of the Mazurian subethnos as a result of such a relocation explains the presence of similar dialectic features, first of all, the presence of Mazuria in the Velen Mazury and in the inhabitants of Mazovia. Meanwhile, in dialectic, historical, and ethnographic studies, the Mazovian origin of Velen Masuria is not confirmed. Most likely, the subethnos of Veleno Mazury was formed as a result of the late internal colonization of Greater Poland [2] [4] [5] .

Talk

The most striking feature that distinguishes Velen Mazury as a special sub-ethnic group and gave them a name is the presence of mazuria in their dialect [2] . This dialectic phenomenon, characteristic in the past for large areas of Mazovia and Lesser Poland , is expressed in the mixing in the same row of consonants s , z , c , ʒ of two rows - wheezing s , z , c , ʒ and hissing š , ž , č , ǯ (pronunciation szkoła as skoła “school”, życie as zycie “life”, etc.). For the main mass of native speakers of dialects of the Greater Poland dialect and for native speakers of the literary Polish language, this trait is alien. Moreover, masuria has an emotionally negative connotation in the linguistic consciousness of most Poles [6] .

In addition to the villages of Veleno Mazury, a mixture of whistling and hissing consonants in the western part of the territory of Greater Poland is found in the villages of and (near Babimost ), as well as in the village of and in the villages near Ravich [6] . Not all modern dialectologists associate the presence of Mazuria in the dialects of these regions with population migrations from Mazovia. In particular, in the dialects of Velen Mazury and in the dialects of the villages of Stare and Nove Kramsko, preservation of Mazury as a Serboluzhitsky substrate is supposed [7] .

Currently, Mazuria is almost never found in the speech of Velen Mazury [2] [4] .
