Berel mounds

Berel barrows are a complex of burial grounds in the Shiliktinsky valley of Kazakhstan .

General information

Known for the fact that in 2003, an archaeological expedition led by an employee of the Kazakh National University, doctor of sciences Abdesh Toleubaev, the so-called "Golden Barrow of Kings" was found there. The mound dates from the 8th – 7th centuries BC. The mound is famous for the fact that jewelry was found there, which later became the basis for the reconstruction of the third “Golden Man” in Kazakhstan. The clothes of the deceased are supposedly completely embroidered with gold, but not like in all the other rich Scythian-Saka tombs - studies have shown that the king wore these clothes constantly. In addition, earlier a number of gold and valuable items were discovered in neighboring barrows, most of them are now stored in the Hermitage. The period to which the found artifacts belong was called the Berel stage of development of the culture of the nomads of East Kazakhstan of the early Iron Age (V — IV century BC).

Present time studies

Currently, foreign scientists are involved in the study of finds of the mound of the Shiliktinsky valley. The Cultural Heritage Foundation has undertaken to reconstruct the appearance of the king. One of the most interesting finds for archaeologists in this barrow is a 1 mm millimeter gold earring, its ear is 0.5 millimeters. Scientists solve the riddle how ancient people who lived 2700 years ago could make a gold product with such jewelry accuracy. In 2013, finally, everyone was able to see the third golden man, he was put on display at the State Museum of Gold and Precious Metals of Astana. For almost 10 years, scientists have been trying to recreate the clothes of the "golden man", and now everyone can see it. This is the third " golden man " found in Kazakhstan.
