History
The coronation of the new King of Norway Haakon VII and Queen Maud took place on June 22, 1906 in the cathedral of the city of Trondheim . On this occasion, the Coronation Medal was established in two classes: silver and bronze. The medal was awarded to the participants of the coronation events - Norwegians and foreigners.
King Haakon VII Coronation Medal was the first award instituted in independent Norway and the last coronation award in Scandinavia .
Description
A round medal in silver or bronze depending on the class, with the combined crowned monograms of King Haakon VII and Queen Maud at the top.
The obverse carries the profile chest portraits of King Haakon VII and Queen Maud in crowns, coronation robes, with a visible chain of the Order of St. Olav around the king’s neck over the ermine collar of the mantle. Around the inscription: “KONG • HAAKON • VII • OG • DRONNING • MAUD” ( King Haakon VII and Queen Maud ).
On the reverse in the center is the Norwegian royal coat of arms : a coat of arms with a chain of the Order of St. Olav around it, superimposed on the royal mantle crowned with a royal heraldic crown. Around the inscription: at the top - “KRONINGEN • I • TRONDHJEM • 22DE • JUNI • 1906” ( Coronation in Trondheim on June 22, 1906 ), at the bottom - “• ALT • FOR • NORGE •” ( All for Norway ).
A ring is attached to the crown, with the help of which the medal is attached to the ribbon.
The ribbon of the medal is silk, moire, red with stripes of yellow and white at the edges.
