Dabbat al-ard

Dabbat al-ard ( Arabic: دابة الأرض , “moving [creature] earthly” [1] ) - in Islamic eschatology there is a pack and mount animal that comes out of the ground. The exit from the ground of the animal is one of the signs of the Doomsday ( Kiyamat ). Mentioned in the Quran .

In Dabbat al-ardah it is said in 82 the verse of surah an-Naml (Ants): “We will bring them an animal out of the ground, which will speak with them ...” [2] . It will come out when disbelief ( kufr ), distortion and oblivion of Islam will be normal. Perhaps this creature will come out in Mecca and will talk to people [3] .

In Islamic tradition it is reported that Musa’s staff and Suleiman's ring will appear along with Dabbat al-Ard. With the staff of the Prophet Musa, it will stamp on the faces of the few remaining righteous ( salih ). The seal will initially be in the form of a white mark, which will then spread out all over the face. Thus, the faces of the righteous will be white. With Suleiman's ring, this creature will hit the infidels (kafir), and a black mark will appear on their faces, which will spread out on their faces and they will become black. Then Dabbat al-ard will announce to people who among them will be in paradise ( Jannat ), and who in hell ( Jahann ). Some legends say that Dabbat al-ard will be released three times [3] .

Ibn Juraij reported that Ibn az-Zubar described the animal and said: “His head resembles the head of a bull, his eyes resemble the eyes of a pig, his ears resemble the ears of an elephant, his horns resemble the horns of a deer, his neck resembles the neck of an ostrich, his chest is like the breast of a lion, his color is like the color of a tiger, his hips are like the hips of a cat, his tail is like the tail of a ram, and his legs are like feet of a camel. The distance between two joints is twelve cubits. It will come out with the staff of Musa and Suleiman's ring. To every believer it will put a white dot with the staff of Musa ... " [4]
