Biography
He studied under Jose Waltz (violin), Rafael Pastor, Emilio Grenet (composition) and Erich Kleiber (conducting) in Havana. Improved by Nikolai Anosov , Alexander Gauk and Leo Ginzburg at the Moscow Conservatory . In 1950 he founded the National Institute of Music in Havana. In 1960, he became one of the founders of the National Symphony Orchestra and the National Theater Symphony Orchestra, and since 1961 he became chief conductor. Member of the Havana Quartet ( Spanish: Cuarteto de La Habana , 1st violin). He performed in many countries, including the USSR . In 1970-1972 he taught conducting at the National School of Arts. Among the students are Manuel Ducesne Kusan and others. He wrote music for films (“If She Comes Back”, 1957 and others).
In 1962 he was a member of the jury of the Second International Tchaikovsky Competition .
