Biography
He worked in the Venetian theater " San Samuel ", in Munich (1771-1774), Venice (1775-1777), Bologna and Mantua (1778) [2] . In 1778 , Kanziani acted as one of the directors of the fake ballets, presented together with Antonio Salieri 's opera Recognized Europe at the opening of the La Scala theater in Milan.
In 1779-1782 and 1784-1792 he worked in St. Petersburg [2] . Here he directed the composer Carlo Canobbio 's ballets Arianna and Bacchus, Pretended Deaf, Cleopatra ( 1781 ) [3] , Don Giovanni ( 1790 ) and Piram and Tizba ( 1791 ), as well as ballets, battles, marches and games for the historical performance “ Oleg ’s Primary Management ”, staged at the Hermitage Theater in collaboration with Charles Le Pic on the plot of Catherine II with music by Carlo Canobbio , Giuseppe Sarti and Vasily Pashkevich [4] .
He also taught dance at the Theater School , where he taught about 100 students [2] . It is believed that thanks to Kantsiani, Russian dancers not only learned the movement and stage presentation, but also began to get acquainted with the latest trends in European ballet art. Among the direct students of Kantsiani was the first Russian choreographer Ivan Valberkh . Kanziani was a staunch supporter of specialization, believing that a ballet dancer , a drama actor, and a musical theater actor are different professions that require different training. The discrepancy between this position and the views of the director of the imperial theaters Count Yusupov ultimately led to the resignation of Kantsiani.
