Biography
The musician was born in Calcutta on November 27, 1952 in a family that has long been engaged in classical music. His father Aparesh Lahiri was a famous singer, and his mother Bansari Lahiri also studied music and was known as a singer of classical songs. Buppy was the only child in the family. From an early age, he dreamed of becoming famous not only in India, but also abroad. He received a musical education from his parents, starting to play on the scoreboard from the age of three. His mother's relative was Kishor Kumar [2] .
His music first appeared on the screen in the Bengali film Daadu (1969). At 19, he came to Bombay to work in Bollywood. [2] The first Hindi film as a composer was Nanha Shikari (1973). But the starting point of his career was the hit of Tahir Hussein Zakhmi (1975). As a singer, he sang “Nothing is impossible” with Mohammed Rafi and Kishor Kumar. In the 80s, Bappi Lahiri became one of the most popular Indian composers. And he first introduced disco into Indian cinema. The song “I'm disco dancer” made a splash throughout India and abroad, especially in Russia and China. He includes music for the films “ Disco Dancer ” (1982), “ Faith ” (1985), “ Dance, Dance ” (1987), “Commando” (1988), “Victim in the Name of Love” (1990), “Rock Dancers "(1995)," Love, love, love "(1989) and many others. The soundtracks for the paintings by Chalte Chalte (1976), Suraksha , “The Disco Dancer ”, “The Loyal Servant”, Himmatwala , “The Drunkard”, “Faith”, “Pimp Involuntarily”, “Scam” became his hits.
Bappi Lahiri is called the father of remixes. They brought him fame not only in India, but also abroad. Despite a large number of film works, his name is associated with terrible music. None of the composers have been criticized as much as him. In the mid-1990s, his music ceased to sound in the movies. In the late 90s, he wrote several film albums, for example, “I swear by the waters of the Ganges” with Mithun Chakraborty . Popular musician Dr. Dre used Bappi Lahiri's four-minute song “Kaliyon ka chaman” as a processing material. As a result, Bappi succeeded through the court to prove her copyright to the music used and to obtain a penalty and public recognition of authorship.
In 2003, he returned with Bappi Magic's solo album - The Asli Baap Mix . In India and Europe, the album was released by Zee Records and a month later reached the sixth point in the ratings. The Gori hai kalaiyan video on the BBC has become a hit.
Bappi Magic - The Asli Baap Mix is a mishmash of my hit songs, refreshed by my very talented son Bappa Lahiri and sung by my daughter Rima and me. You can call it family work. We recorded the album at Silent Sound Studios in Hollywood .
His children, the daughter of Rome Lahiri and the son of Bapp Lahiri, also make music.
