Biography
Born in September 1904 in the village of Tsvetovo (now Kursk district of the Kursk region ) in a peasant family, Russian . In the Red Army since 1926 . He graduated from the Red Banner Higher Shooting and Tactical Courses of the Red Army "Vystrel" . Before the war, he served in the 7th rifle regiment of the 3rd Crimean rifle division. Since 1933 he served in the Black Sea Fleet .
During the Great Patriotic War, he participated in the defense of Odessa - commanded the 1st volunteer detachment of marines sent from Sevastopol to help the Odesa residents. He conducted a raid to the rear of the enemy, showing personal courage, bravery and courage.
In the defense of Sevastopol, he took part in the post of commander of the 79th rifle brigade, which fought in the direction of the offensive of the main group of the enemy.
In July 1942, the 79th naval rifle brigade under the command of Potapov, along with other parts of the 3rd defense sector of Sevastopol, took part in the battles on the Cape Chersonese near the 35th coastal battery , covering the evacuation from Sevastopol. While securing the landing of personnel on the ship, Potapov was wounded. With the support of the Marines, he was raised aboard the minesweeper and taken to Novorossiysk .
Subsequently, he commanded the 255th Tamansky twice Red Banner Order of Suvorov, II degree and Kutuzov, the marine brigade , the 254th marine brigade of the Northern Defensive Area.
He died on May 25, 1966 . He was buried in Sevastopol, at the Memorial Fraternal Cemetery of Soviet soldiers in Dergachi.
