Myles Fernic Burnyeat (born January 1, 1939) is a British-English antique philosopher, also a specialist in modern philosophy. EMERIT Professor of Cambridge , Member of the British Academy (1984).

After school in 1957-9. He served in the Royal Navy , was prepared as a translator from Russian. Then he graduated from Royal College of Cambridge (Bachelor of Philosophy), where he studied in 1959-63. After that, he studied with Bernard Williams at the Department of Philosophy at University College London , where he then taught since 1964. In 1978-96, he taught at Cambridge, a university classics lecturer, and since 1984 Lawrence professor of ancient philosophy, was also a member of the philosophy of Robinson Cambridge's newly created college . In 1996-2006 Senior Research Member in Philosophy, Oxford College of All Souls , then its EMEREM Member. In 2005/6 president of the Aristotelian society. Since 2006, again at Robinson College , now his honorary member.
He spoke in the media, the author of the plays. Continuing to be on the service in the Navy, he rose to the rank of captain-lieutenant (1970), was dismissed in 1974.
In 1984-2000 He was married to R. Paidel (broke up), and since 2002 - to H. Sedgwick (d. 2003).
Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
CBE (2007) - for scientific merit. Honorary Doctor DLitt, University of St Andrews (2012).
His works have been translated into French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and other languages [1] .
