Frederick Denison Maurice ( born John Frederick Denison Maurice ; 08.29.1805,Suffolk , England - 04/01/1872, London ) - British Anglican theologian, one of the founders of Christian socialism .

The son of a priest.
He studied law at Cambridge .
In 1834 he was ordained to the priesthood.
In 1840-53, he was a professor of English and modern history at King's College , Cambridge, from 1846 he was simultaneously a professor of theology.
From 1866 until the end of his life, he was again a Cambridge professor of moral philosophy.
It is believed that, among other things, thanks to his activities in the foundation of Christian socialism, socialism in England had a much less pronounced anti-religious orientation than in other countries [4] .
