Labourdesiere, Philibert Babu

The third son of Philibert Babu , senora de Givre, and Marie Gaudens, ladies de Labourdeziere and de Tuysso, brother of the great master of artillery, Jean Babou . Born in the castle of Labourdesiere, in Montlui-sur-Loire , between Tours and Amboise .

According to Italian baroque historians, he came from the youngest branch of the Naldi family, which is probably fiction, and was born in Brisighella , in the Faenza diocese.

In 1533, at the age of 19, he was appointed, after the death of his elder brother Jacques, dean of Saint-Martin-de-Tours and bishop of Angouleme . In 1538, the king added to these beneficiaries the position of treasurer of Saint-Chapelle in Paris. In 1557 he was appointed reetmaster .

In 1558 he went to Rome, where he became the full-time ambassador of Kings Henry II , Francis II and Charles IX . In 1560 he became abbot of Le Jard; on February 26, 1561 he was elevated to the rank of Cardinal by Pius IV . Got a cap of Cardinal Prelate San Sisto on March 4 or 10.

In 1562-1563 participated in meetings of the Council of Trent . December 16, 1562 or June 18, 1563 became the apostolic administrator of the Bishopric of Osser . Perhaps he visited this diocese, torn by a religious war , passing from Rome to Paris.

Instead of San Sisto, on November 17, 1564, he was assigned to the cardinal Martino ai Monte , and on May 14, 1568, he was assigned to the parish of Sant Anastasia . In the conclave of 1565-1566, who elected Pope Pius V , did not participate.

In 1562 (until June 4, 1567) he was removed from the control of the Angouleme diocese. On January 11, 1570, the Camerlengo College of Cardinals was appointed.

He died in the palace of Sant Apollinar in Rome. Buried in the church of San Luigi dei Francesi .

The correspondence of Philibert Babu de Labourdezier was partially published by Edouard Henri in Reims in 1859.

Family

He had an illegitimate son, Alphonse, who was identified by the secret bull as the heir to a significant cardinal fortune. Philibert's French relatives disputed the inheritance for a long time, but were forced to be satisfied with paying 20,000 ecu. The son of Alfonso was Fabrice Babu de Labourdeziere (d. 01/13/1664), the chamberlain of Pope Urban VIII , appointed 29/01/1624 Bishop of Cavaillon .
