The ancestor of this noble family is Roman Ivashkovich Ermine ( Belorussian. Raman Ivashkavich ), who from 1487 to 1493 was governor of Ovruch. Of his grandchildren, Ivan Ermine ( Polish: Iwan Hornostaj ; d. In 1558) was the governor of Novogrudok and a subcarb of the Grand Duke of Lithuania, and Onikia Ermine ( Ukrainian, Ermine Onikii ) was the royal marshal (1555) [1] [2] . The son of Ivan Ermine Gavriil Ivanovich was the Minsk and Berestey governor, the Kamenets and Minsk headman.
The Gornostaev family died out in the first half of the 17th century [1] [2] .
