History
The house that Alexander Ivanovich Morozov himself chose to create the future museum was built in 1910 for the Austrian engineer Ludwig Auer and is an early example of rational residential architecture. The artist himself, who spent almost his entire life in Moscow (75 of 95 years) [1] , never lived in this house; Here lived the family of the doctor Mikhail Savelyevich Vikhman, who bought a house in 1928, and with whom Morozov maintained friendly relations [2] . Also, in the late 1920s, N. G. Burylin lived here, and from the 1940s the house was sold in parts and belonged to different owners, until in 1988 it was decided to create a museum on the basis of the bequeathed to the city by the artist in the same year collections of his works. By 1994, the building was liberated from residents, and work began on the construction of a museum here [3] .
Organizational issues were addressed by an employee of the Ivanovo Regional Art Museum, Lyubov Pavlovna Solovyova [4] ; According to her, only in 1996 was it possible to persuade Morozov to begin partially transporting creative works, documents from the archive and some personal items to the building of the future museum. After the artist’s death in 1997, the movement of his heritage became more active [3] [5] .
The author of the project of the museum exposition was the artist of the theater named after K. S. Stanislavsky V. N. Arkhipov , who personally knew Morozov [3] .
The museum opened for visitors on September 19, 2001 [6] .
The museum also has an old linden park [6] .
