History

On September 1, 1919, a rebel meeting was held in Dobrovelichkovka , at which a delegate was elected from each regiment. The meeting discussed the further political existence of Makhnovshchina as an independent organism. Also discussed was the reorganization of the rebel regiments into a single army that would be effective in guerrilla warfare. At the meeting, the Revolutionary Military Council of the Army, the headquarters of the Rebel Army, was elected. The rebel regiments led by N. Makhno were officially called the "Revolutionary Rebel Army of Ukraine (Makhnovists)." Responsible for the organization of the army was Viktor Fedorovich Belash . Belash developed the RPAU structure, which was approved by the Revolutionary Military Council of the army: RPAU consists of four corps - three existing and one reserve. A corps of regiments, regiments of battalions and divisions; battalions and divisions of companies and hundreds; companies and hundreds of platoons; platoons from half platoons [1] .

Vdovichenko was appointed at the head of the 1st Donetsk Corps [2] .

On September 27, 1919, the 2nd Corps took part in the battle of Peregonovka , in which the Makhnovists won a major victory. On September 28, 1919, Makhno decided on a deep raid on Yekaterinoslavshchina, in which the 2nd Corps also took part. In its raid, the Makhno rebel army set off in marching order with three main columns. The infantry on carts and cavalry made daily transitions of 80-90 versts. According to the order of the army, the right wing, which was made up of infantry units of the 2nd Corps, through Peschany Brod- Rivne-Sofievka-Zobrinets-Dolinskaya- Krivoy Rog - Apostolovo - Nikopol was put forward 315 versts.

On October 8, Berdyansk occupied the corps, on the 9th - Primorsk, Osipenko, on the 14th took Mariupol, from here Vdovichenko sent the 2nd cavalry brigade to occupy Denikin’s headquarters for Taganrog. By the evening of October 16, the 2nd cavalry brigade occupied Novoazovsk, which was 65 miles west of Taganrog. By this time, from the city of Mariupol to the station. Karani infantry Vdovichenko occupied the railway line, leading an offensive on Volnovakha, where there was a strong White Guard group guarding the artillery base [3] .

On October 24, 1919, corps commander Vdovichenko issued Order No. 1 to the “Hair and Village Councils, other organizations and authorities on the arrest of deserters who left the Rebel Army” [4] .

On January 11, 1920, under his leadership, at a meeting of commanders in Gulyaypol , it was decided to send the 2nd Corps to Berdyansk and Mariupol Uyezds, where to dissolve.

In the spring of 1920, Mariupol Uyezd was raided by formations of F. Kozhin of 100 sabers with 30 machine guns on carts and Maskalevsky of 500 cavalrymen collected from the remains of the 2nd Corps.
