Biography
He studied at the art school in Brest under the leadership of Peter Danelia, in the Minsk Art School (1965-1970, painting department). After serving in the Soviet army , he graduated from the Belarusian Theater and Art Institute (1970-1976), department of graphics ) at Pavel Lyubomudrov, Vasily Petrovich Sharangovich. Member of the Belarusian Union of Artists since 1977.
He worked in book and easel graphics, easel painting, painting and ex-libris .
He devoted the first years of creativity to graphics, Nikolay Seleshchuk created a large number of easel works and book illustrations. In the 1980s, children's books designed by him were published: a collection of folk tales “A Gift of Parents”, a separate edition of the fairy tale “Strive for More,” a book of poems by Grigory Borodulin “Indykalo-Kudykalo”. Significant work of Seleshchuk in this direction was the design of the poem “Symon-music” by Yakub Kolas (1990). Nikolay Seleschuk also designed the books of Poetry “Listening to the Heart”, “Such a Short Summer” by Raisa Borovikova , “It is time for love and pity” Yevgenia Yanishchits, “Smile for me” by Yanka Sipakova, “The Treasure” by Zmitrok Byaduli and others.
A special feature of the artistic compositions of the author is a detailed allegory, three-dimensional metaphor, symbolism. Nikolai Seleshchuk sought to create images, ideas, and his paintings, according to critics, resemble theater. The artist used elements of surrealism, phantasmagoria and grotesque. The artist's book graphics are full of decorative details, fantastic images, household items and clothing.
Since 1966, he participated in exhibitions. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he exhibited paintings. In 1987, a personal exhibition was held in Grodno. Works were exhibited in Russia , Lithuania , Estonia , Azerbaijan , Hungary , Poland , Bulgaria , Czech Republic , Slovakia , Italy , Canada , USA , Greece , Spain , Indonesia , Belgium , France , Sri Lanka , Japan , Finland , Germany , Great Britain , Portugal .
The paintings and graphics of Nikolai Seleschuk are stored in the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus , the Museum of Contemporary Art of Belarus, the collections of the Belarusian Union of Artists, the Mogilev Regional Museum named after Pavel Maslenikov , the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow , the Museum of Modern Art of Equatorial Guinea, the Kostaki Gallery in Athens (Greece) , gallery Hagelstam in Helsinki ( Finland ), interior light Kaplansky in Toronto (Canada), commercial and industrial center of Minneapolis (USA), at the Museum TERM Russian art in New Jersey (USA) and others, as well as in private collections in Belarus, Greece, France, Finland, Canada, USA, Israel , Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia, Germany.
Nikolay Seleshchuk was a laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus (1992) for the series of graphic works “Saints” (“Carols”, “The Call of Spring”, “Verbnitsa”), a series of paintings “My Belarus”, illustrations for the books “Symon Music” by Yakub Kolas and "Tales of Belarusian writers." Awarded 18 diplomas and awards of republican, all-Union and international book contests. For drawings to fairy tales of Belarusian writers, he was awarded a gold medal and a diploma of the Biennale of Book Illustration in Bratislava (1989).
He died on September 25, 1996, drowned in the Tyrrhenian Sea while traveling to Italy. [one]
