Biography

Born in 1822 in the Novgorod province in the family of a nobleman. [2] In 1832–33, he studied at the Petrozavodsk Theological School and the Olonets Gubernia Men's High School [3] . Without completing the course [4] of the gymnasium in Novgorod in 1838 , under the patronage of his father [2] he entered the service in the criminal chamber, then in the provincial chancellery [4] . From 1841, having moved to St. Petersburg [4] and continuing to remain in the service, he began as an outside student to study at the Imperial Academy of Arts . He served in the Department of Rights, where from 1845 he was an assistant chief in a specific office. [4] In 1848, he was awarded the title of a class artist , and from that time he began to exhibit his landscapes at academic exhibitions (1850–1853, 1857–1864, 1867, 1874) [4] . From 1850 he served in the Department of Heroldia of the Governing Senate. [4] In 1853, he was recognized as β€œappointed” as academician, [4] and in 1857, for the painting β€œView of the Island of Goloday near St. Petersburg”, he was awarded the title of academician [5] and in the same year he joined the Ministry of Justice. . In 1858, he decided to leave the civil service and become a professional artist. In 1859, he traveled to European countries, during which he visited Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, and from where he brought many sketches and sketches . After returning to Russia, he began teaching painting at the Naval Cadet Corps (1858–1864), the Engineering Artillery School of the Naval Department, the St. Petersburg Seventh Men's Gymnasium (from 1862), [4] and in 1869 he transferred to the Gatchina Institute and the Gatchina Gymnasium. Creativity

He worked as a landscape painter - he painted views of St. Petersburg and its environs (Petrovsky, Krestovsky, Golodai islands), Finland (Helsingfors, Kivach, Kyuro Falls). [four]

In addition, he painted portraits of Paul I, Empresses Maria Feodorovna and Maria Alexandrovna, Prince P. Oldenburg for various state institutions. [four]
