Starting position in Portuguese drafts
Portuguese checkers - one of the variants of the game of checkers , popular in Portugal , Brazil [1] , in some countries of South and Central Africa [2] . The goal of the game is to deprive the opponent of the opportunity to move by taking or locking all his pieces.

Rules
Board and Initial Layout
A board of 8 × 8 cells is located between partners so that the lower left margin is white. In the initial position, each player has 12 pieces, located in the first three rows on black squares.
Rules of moves and capture
- Moves
- White checkers make the first move.
- "Simple" checkers can go diagonally one field forward.
- A lady walks any number of cells forward and backward.
- Take
- "Simple" checkers hit only forward. Taking the opponent’s checkers is a must.
- The lady, when taken, is placed on any free field of this diagonal.
- You need to beat the maximum possible number of opponent's checkers, and with equal battle options you need to beat the maximum number of dames.
Notation
The notation is digital, the fields are numbered, starting from the lower right corner, from right to left.
Competition
The Portuguese Championship has been held in Portuguese drafts since 1981, and a stage organized by the International Drafts Federation has been held as part of the World Cup .
