Ivanovo, as historians believe, arose no later than the 15th century with the Kokui creek [1] [2] . Near it was the oldest public center of Ivanov - the modern Revolution Square [2] [3] . It is assumed that the original name of the stream - Potok or Potekusha , and Kokuey called the territory along the right bank of the stream. By its shape, it resembled a kokoshnik , which is called “kokuy” in a different way. Later this name passed to the stream itself [1] . There is a version expressed by P. N. Travkin, according to which, the name of the stream is associated with the Kokue, the venue for the pagan Kupala rites [4] .

The sources of Kokuya were located in wells and ponds, in the area of the modern Kapitan Petrachkova street . Then it flowed between Stanko and Moskovskaya streets, turned to the north-west on Revolution Square and fell into Uvod near the Pokrovsky Monastery (now the Palace of Arts ). On the banks of the stream stood various household, industrial, and warehouse facilities. Among the bridges, Prikaznaya was the most famous, on which on August 10, 1915, a demonstration of workers and soldiers clashed. As a result, 30 people died. Even before the Revolution, the stream gradually, in sections, began to be allocated underground. But most of the work was done in the 1930s. It is currently completely underground. Over the stream in the lower reaches was created Kokuy Boulevard [1] .
