Biography
Born in a peasant family of Belarusians - Catholics : parents - Alexander and Anna (nee Tuchkovskaya) Poznyaki [1] . Received a general secondary and musical education [1] . Early joined the Belarusian movement. In 1909 - 1912 he took part in the work of Belarusian Christian-educational circles. In 1913 - 1915, in Vilna, together with A. Bychkovsky , Yadvigin S. , B. Pochopka, and others, published the Catholic newspaper “Biełarus” ( Rus. Belorus ). In 1918 - 1920, J. Pozniak served as an organist in the church in Lavarishki near Vilna, then in the church of St. John in Vilna. Member of the Christian Democratic Union ( Belor. Hrystsiansk-demakratichnaya zluchntsts ) since its foundation in May 1917 in Petrograd .
He actively participated in the Belarusian Christian Democratic movement, especially after moving its center in Vilna in 1921 . In 1928 - 1936 he edited the newspaper "Biełaruskaja krynica" ( Rus. Belarusian source ). Since 1928, he was secretary of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy, since 1936 - Chairman of the Presidium of the Belarusian National Association. He organized Belarusian art groups, Belarusian schools in the countryside. Since the beginning of the 1930s - Chairman of the Vilna Belarusian National Committee.
In 1936, the newspaper Biełaruskaja krynica was confiscated 11 times by the Polish authorities, and more than 30 court cases were opened to the editor [2] . Y. Poznyak was fined, he was arrested and held in custody for several months. In 1937, Biełaruskaja krynica was closed by the Polish authorities. Since 1939 - the editor of the journal "Hrystsiyanskaya Dumka" ( Russian. Christian thought ) in Vilna [1] [2] [3] [4] . In September-October 1939, the NKVD was arrested and removed from Vilna [1] [2] . According to one of the versions, until June 1941, he was kept in prison in Staraya Vileyka, which is not far from Molodechno [1] . The circumstances and the date of death are unknown [1] [2] .
In some publications, along with other incredible news, there is a statement that J. Pozniak was the editor of the Belarusian newspaper Ranitsa published in Berlin with the participation of the German authorities ( Russian. Morning ) [5] [6] . However, this statement is not true, the first issue of the newspaper was published in Berlin on December 3, 1939 [7] , that is, after the arrest of J. Poznyak in Vilna .
