Using influence on the Grand Duke of Tuscany Leopold II , he tried to persuade him to a more liberal and national policy. Later he sat in the Italian parliament and in 1867 - 1869 in the office of Menabrea was Minister of Finance; worked hard to eliminate the country's deficit.
