Marat Terentyevich Shpak (* April 13, 1926 , Chupakhovka - June 2, 1993 , Kiev ) - Ukrainian Soviet physicist , corresponding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (since 1969 ), academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (since 1990 ), laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in science and Engineering ( 1974 ).

Biography
Born on April 13, 1926 in the village of Chupakhovka (now the Akhtyr district of Sumy region ). In 1951 he graduated from Chernivtsi University .
Member of the CPSU (b) since 1951 . Since 1952 , an employee, and since 1970 , director of the Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR . Doctor of physical and mathematical sciences since February 8, 1961 , from December 13, 1968 - professor .
He lived in Kiev on Vladimirskaya Street . He died in Kiev on June 2, 1993 , and was buried in the Baykovsky cemetery .
Scientific activity
The author of many scientific papers. Major works in the field of solid state physics , optical quantum electronics and laser spectroscopy . He discovered the exciton fluorescence and phosphorescence of molecular crystals . He also performed significant work in the field of laser physics. Created a working model of a wide-range laser based on solutions of organic dyes with a narrow emission band.
Rewards
He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor , medals .
Together with a group of physicists, he was awarded the State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR in the field of science and technology in 1974 for developing the physical basis for controlling the frequency of stimulated emission and creating a complex of lasers with a frequency that is tunable.
