Shirokov, Vladimir Anatolyevich

He graduated from Kiev State University. T.G. Shevchenko .

In 1979 he defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

• 1980-1987 - worked in the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
• 1987–1991 - headed the Department of Scientific Information of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
• Since 1991 - heads the Ukrainian Language and Information Fund (UYAF) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine founded by him.

From 2006 - Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, since 2012 - its full member.

He is the founder of the Ukrainian scientific school of linguistic technology, the author of the information theory of lexicographic systems.

He created the theory of semantic states, which forms the basis for a formalized description of a wide range of linguistic phenomena, combining grammatical and lexicographic varieties of the description of a language system.

He is the author and coordinator of the program “Dictionaries of Ukraine”, initiated by the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated August 7, 1999 “On the development of the national dictionary base”.

He initiated the development of the first full-scale Ukrainian electronic dictionary - the Integrated Lexicographic System “Dictionaries of Ukraine”.

With his participation and under his leadership, the first in Ukraine electronic linguistic corps was created, which makes up a modern experimental basis for conducting fundamental linguistic studies and creating lexicographic works of the new generation.

He developed the basis of the linguistic approach to the examination of political and legal documents and legislative acts, the concept of the All-Ukrainian linguistic dialogue.

Vladimir Shirokov, as the organizer of science:

• Member of the Bureau of the Department of Literature, Language and Art History of the NAS of Ukraine,
• Deputy Chairman of the Scientific Council of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine with problems “Information. Tongue. Intelligence",
• deputy editor-in-chief of the journal "Linguistics",
• Member of the Bureau of the Scientific Council of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the problems of "Patterns of language development and practice of language activities";
• creator of the Ukrainian linguistic portal .

V. Shirokov is part of:

• Ukrainian National Spelling Commission,
• Scientific and Publishing Council under the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine ,
• Editorial boards of a number of scientific journals,
• Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine on Informatics and Instrument Engineering,
• Dissertation Council on thesis defense for the degree of doctor (candidate) of science in the National Library of Ukraine named after V.I. Vernadsky .
