Biography

His parents were sugar technologists, they were unsuccessfully evacuated during the war, they survived the Nazi occupation in Debaltseve . After liberation, the family returned to Kiev. In 1958 he graduated from Kiev University. Shevchenko , specialty geophysics (geophysical methods of prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits) [1] .

In 1958 - 1961 he worked as an engineer at the Kiev Geophysical Expedition ( Turchinka ).

In 1961 - 1964 at the graduate school at the Institute of Geophysics of the Ukrainian SSR Academy of Sciences under the leadership of Illarion Balabushevich, working at the institute, 1966 - candidate of technical sciences, 1968 - senior researcher. Since 1975 - Deputy Director for Research. 1977 - Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, the work "Questions of the theory and methods of interpretation of gravimetric observations by stable numerical methods."

Since 1976, he has headed the department of deep Earth processes and gravimetry [1] - after the death of academician Seraphim Subbotin.

In 1984 he received the academic title of professor, in 1985 - corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR , 1990 - academician.

Since 1991 - Director of the Institute of Geophysics named after S. I. Subbotin of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Since 1992, he has headed the professional council for the defense of doctoral theses at the institute.

In 2010, he received an award from the State Geological Survey of Ukraine - the L.I. Lutugin medal.

His authorship is more than 500 scientific works, 5 of them are monographs .

His works were published in Ukraine and Russia, and were also published in scientific journals of Great Britain, India, Italy, China, Poland, USA, France, then Czechoslovakia, Sweden and Switzerland.

One of the first in the USSR began to process and interpret geophysical data on a computer. He prepared 27 candidates and 2 doctors of science.

Academician of the New York Academy of Sciences - 1995 . He was co-editor of specialized issues of the journal Tectonophysics.

Co-author of the publication “Gravity Exploration. Handbook of Geophysics, 1981 .

With the help of its development, relatively new data were obtained:

  • Foundation structures of the Dnieper-Donets Basin ,
  • the soles of the iron ore deposits of the Big Krivoy Rog ,
  • deep structure of the northern part of the Siberian platform ,
  • the structure of mineral deposits of the Krasnoyarsk Territory ,
  • the upper mantle of the North Atlantic and Indian Oceans ,
  • the upper mantle of the Black Sea
  • upper mantle of the Gulf of Guinea .

Among his works:

  • "Determination of the vertical derivatives of the attraction potential based on the results of observations with a horizontal gradiometer", 1970
  • “Stable numerical methods in gravimetry problems”, 1978
