Leonid Nikolaevich Markovsky ( November 21, 1939 , Grodekovo - February 3, 1998 , Kiev ) - Ukrainian organic chemist, specialist in the field of organoelement chemistry.

Biography
Born in the village of Grodekovo, Ussuri region, Primorsky Territory ( Russia ). In 1961 he graduated from the Lviv Polytechnic Institute . Since 1963 , he was a postgraduate student at the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, since 1967 he was a candidate of chemical sciences, since 1969 he was a senior researcher, and since 1973 he had been the head of the flame retardant chemistry department (now the phosphoran chemistry department), and he was also deputy director of the Institute for Scientific Work , doctor of chemical sciences ( 1974 ), professor ( 1976 ). Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR ( 1978 ), academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR ( 1983 ), director of the Institute ( 1983 - 1998 ).
He died on February 3, 1998 . He was buried in Kiev at the Baykovsky cemetery .
Scientific work
He performed basic research in the chemistry of organic compounds of phosphorus , sulfur , selenium , tellurium , fluorine , chemistry of stable radicals, supramolecular chemistry, chemistry and technology of flame retardants and thermal stabilizers of polymer compositions.
He developed fire-resistant compositions for rocket and space technology ( 1984 ) and flexible fire-resistant polyurethane foams for various purposes ( 1994 ).
He prepared 5 doctors and 29 candidates of chemical sciences. The author of 585 scientific papers.
Rewards
He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor ( 1986 ), the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology ( 1991 ) for the series of works “Macrocyclic Compounds: Synthesis, Structure, Properties”.
