Yuriy Petrovich Korchevoy ( October 15, 1936 , Kiev - June 2, 2012 ) - Ukrainian Soviet scientist in the field of heat power engineering and thermal physics, 1997 - academician of the NAS of Ukraine, 2002 - laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, awarded with an Honorary Diploma of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Honorary diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Honorary Power Engineer of Ukraine.

Graduate of Kiev State University. T. G. Shevchenko , works at the Department of Physical Electronics, in 1966 he defended his thesis.
Since 1969 he has been working at the Institute of Electrodynamics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, defending his doctoral dissertation. Since 1988 - deputy director for research at the Institute of Energy Saving Problems of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, he also headed the department of high-temperature energy conversion.
In 1996, on the basis of this department, the Scientific and Technical Center for Coal Energy Technologies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine was created, becoming its director.
His research interests include the development of environmentally friendly technologies for the use of Ukrainian coal in the energy sector.
He conducted a number of studies on physical phenomena in thermionic-plasma converters of thermal energy into electrical energy with cesium filling. The phenomenon of the appearance of an arc discharge in the interelectrode gap of these converters was discovered.
He is the author of the discovery “The phenomenon of the formation of photoresonant plasma” - confirmed by a diploma of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and the International Association of Authors of Scientific Discoveries.
He developed the scientific foundations of the combustion and gasification of high-ash coals, conducted a series of studies of the kinetics and dynamics of the conversion of solid fuels. The results of his research were used in the manufacture of the boiler at the Starobeshevskaya TPP , and the boiler of the TPP . Under his leadership, the “State Program for Domestic Boiler-Building and Production of Gas-Purifying Equipment” and the program for the development of solid-fuel energy for the Donetsk region were created.
He paid attention to scientific research on the disposal of sludge, sludge and dry coal waste, regarding the protection of the environment from emissions of dust, heavy metals, sulfur oxides and nitrogen. Developed the State program for the use of sludge and dry coal treatment waste at thermal power plants.
He is the founder of scientific schools for the study of processes in the low-temperature plasma of alkali metals and high-performance and environmentally friendly coal technologies for energy.
He has more than 250 scientific works, 17 copyright certificates for inventions.
Among his students are 10 candidates and 2 doctors of sciences.
He was the chairman of the permanent commission of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the efficient use of low-grade fuels in the energy sector and the Industrial Heat Power Engineering section of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine.
He was in the editorial board of the journal "Problems of General Energy".
Twice was the winner of the All-Ukrainian competition "Leader of the fuel and energy complex": in 2000 - in the nomination "Scientific Development", 2005 - in the nomination "Scientist".
