Biography
He was educated at Chetham's School of Music and Royal College of Organists in London [2] .
Hill previously served as Master of Music at Winchester and Westminster Cathedrals, was the music director of Wyenflete Singers , chief conductor of the Air Force Singers (since September 2007 ), music director of Bach Choir (since April 1998 ), chief conductor of Soutern Sinfonia , music director of the Leeds Philharmonic Society , music director at St John's College, University of Cambridge .
Hill acts as an organist and guest conductor with many well-known orchestras and ensembles: with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Bournemouth Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with the Netherlands Radio Choir and RIAS Chamber Choir , English Chamber Orchestra S, Royal Northern BBC Orchestra, Royal Northern National Orchestra of Wales , Royal Liverpool Philharmonic , orchestra and choir of the National Opera of Wales, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra , Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra ... In June 2016, you set foot in St. Petersburg with Yola University Schola Cantorum , performing Arvo Pärt 's “Passion of the Christ”.
The conductor recorded dozens of discs: from Gregorian chants to polyphonic music of the Renaissance , from oratory of the Baroque to modern academic music. Hill collaborates with prominent composers of our time, being the first performer of their works: John Tavener , Jonathan Dove, Roderick Williams. Collaborates with Hyperion label [3] .
Currently, David Hill (since July 2013 ) is the principal conductor of Yale Schola Cantorum University [4] . The musician is also the president of the United Organist Association.
Rewards
- 2002. Awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Southampton for his merits in music.
- 2007. Honorary member of the Royal School of Church Music.
- 2010. Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music.
