He studied in Turin , where in 1862 he defended his doctoral dissertation. In 1868 he became a privat-docent of ophthalmology , in 1872 a prosector, in 1873 a professor of obstetrics and the director of a obstetric institution in Padua , in 1879 an ordinary professor of obstetrics and gynecology. From 1895 at the University of Bologna , in 1905 - 1907 Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
