Description
The sleeve of the cartridge is cylindrical in shape with a protruding rim formed by an annular groove. It can be either brass [2] or steel, clad with copper or brass [1] .
The 9 × 17 mm cartridge has a low power, sufficient to defeat a person only when shooting accurately at unprotected parts of the body. Its advantage is a small recoil of the weapon, which positively affects the accuracy of shooting, low probability of rebounds , the ability to use in light and compact pistols [1] .
Ammo Types
The standard bullet is a shell, it consists of a lead core and a tompak shell, in the front part a thickening was made in order to increase the breakdown ability [1] . In addition, cartridges with bullets of increased stopping action have been developed and produced:
- Cor-Bon Self-Defense Ammunition 380 ACP 90 Grain JHP - cartridge with an expansive shell bullet of the Jacketed Hollow Point type (with a recess in the bullet nose) weighing 90 grains ;
- Buffalo Bore Ammunition 380 ACP + P 90 Grain JHP - cartridge with the same expansive Jacketed Hollow Point type shell bullet weighing 90 grains and an increased powder charge;
- Remington Golden Saber Ammunition 380 ACP 102 Grain Brass JHP - cartridge with an expansive shell bullet with a bronze shell type "Jacketed Hollow Point" weighing 102 gran.
Application
The cartridge has gained popularity in Europe and America as ammunition for police and civilian weapons. Compact polymer pistols of 380 ACP caliber such as Glock 43, Ruger LCP, Kahr CW380 in curb weight weigh about 450 grams, for which they are widely used as civilian weapons for hidden carrying.
Certified in Russia as ammunition for service weapons [3] , since 1996 Tula Cartridge Plant OJSC has been produced under the designation 9 × 17 mm K (used, for example, for the IZH-71 pistol) [1] .
