Renaming police to police
The main obstacles to renaming the police to the police (palitsyya) in Belarus are financial and moral.
President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said the following: “I didn’t just say that we need to reform the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but reform without breaking (not changing signboards), as was usually the case with us and ours neighbors. We are not going to either rename the Ministry of Internal Affairs otherwise (to the police, for example). The reform should consist in improving the structure (police) that has been created today. This is a fundamental and conceptual position of the development of our state. We must always understand reform as improvement ” [2]
