Biography
Born in Schelmetsbanya, in Upper Hungary (now - the city of Banska Stiavnica in Slovakia ). He studied medicine in Halle , in 1732 received a doctorate in medicine. He was chairman of the “Collegium clinicum” in Halle, and held the post of life doctor of Prince Anhalt-Köthen .
He owned a significant collection of coins (more than 14,000 copies), including about 7300 thalers of almost all German states, as well as thalers minted in Austria, the Czech Republic and Switzerland. In 1765-1774 he published in Königsberg a three-volume work, “Vollständiges Thaler-Cabinet”, containing a description of more than 7000 coins in a poltaler, 1 and 2 thalers.
In 1788, Maday’s collection was auctioned in Hamburg and then resold several times.
