Content
Song
Brian May wrote this song under the impression of the press , which, according to him, “caused him big problems” and “made his life a hell .”
The song has two versions - the album, which was released on the album and almost all singles of the composition, and the extended, released only on 12-inch records and some 5-inch CDs. During the life of Mercury, “Scandal” was never performed live by the group and was not published on any songbooks.
Landscape version
The song begins with a song by Freddie Mercury . Then a part of the electric guitar appears along with the synthesizer , and after a while the bass and drums . The song is divided into four verses and has no refrain. After the third verse, there is a guitar solo performed by Brian May on his Red Special guitar. After him, only John Deacon played the bass for some time, Roger Taylor on the drums and David Richards, the producer of the keyboard. Then the song becomes heavier and the fourth verse is performed, and at the end the song gradually fades.
Extended version
The extended version of the song is a remix of the original version. Additional parts of the composition and another arrangement are added to it.
Musical instruments
- John Deacon - Fender Bass
- Brian May - Red Special Electric Guitar
- David Richards - Synthesizers Emulator II and Korg M1
- Roger Taylor - Ludwig Drums
Vocals
The whole vocal part was performed by Freddie Mercury . Sometimes two- and three-voice parts were added. The line “Tomorrow hard times” was performed not in an ordinary voice, but in falsetto .
Video clip
The video clip for the song was directed by directors Rudi Dolezal and Hans Rossaker . The video was shot at Pinewood on September 27, 1989 for the album version of the song. The video was released on The Miracle EP and Greatest Video Hits 2 .
The scene is framed in the form of a gigantic newspaper called National Scandal, in which musicians perform a song. Also, sometimes actors who play stars and photographers appear on the sidelines. During a guitar solo, Brian May appears on a separate podium, and newspaper fragments fly around him.
The frames from the video were used by the group in the clip “ The Show Must Go On ”.
