Group History
" Eternal Endless Infinity" and changes in the composition (2000-2004)
Inspired by the myth of Atlantis , in August 2000, Werner Fidler, Thomas Zaser, Christian Stani and Chris Camper decided to create a musical group. A little later, mezzo-soprano Nicole Bogner joined the project, and this became the starting point for the history of Visions of Atlantis. The first demo " Morning in Atlantis" was released in 2000.
In 2001, a contract was signed with TTS Media Music / Black Arrow Productions, and in 2002 the first album, “Eternal Endless Infinity”, was released. In 2003, there were changes in the group: vocalist Christian Shtani replaced Mario Plank, and keyboard player Chris Kamper - Miro Holly.
Cast Away and Nicole Bogner's departure (2004-2005)
The second studio album, Cast Away, was released by Napalm Records in November 2004. The first official video clip, quite actively broadcast on MTV, was filmed for the song “Lost”. In early 2005, Visions of Atlantis conducted a tour of Europe with the support of their label colleagues, Elis and the Celtic rock band Lyriel . In late 2005, Nicole Bogner left the band.
New vocalist and third studio album “Trinity” (2005-2007)
Bogner's place at the microphone stand was taken by American soprano singer Melissa Ferlaak (formerly an Aesma Daeva participant), Wolfgang Koch replaced guitarist Werner Fiedler. In 2006, keyboard player Martin Harb, who played with Visions of Atlantis in 2003 in Mexico City, replaced Miro Holly. In May 2007, the band released their third studio album, Trinity . (Recorded at Bavarian Dreamscape, mastering - Finnvox Studios )
In the fall of 2007, Visions of Atlantis, together with Epica, conducted a six-week US tour.
The care of Melissa Ferlaak and Wolfgang Koch (2007-2008)
Upon returning from overseas tour in the group there were another changes. On November 28, 2007, the official website for Visions of Atlantis reported that vocalist Melissa Ferlaak and guitarist Wolfgang Koch had left the band, both for personal reasons. A few days later it became known about the return of the former guitarist Werner Fiedler.
Joanna Ninivska and Maxi Neal (2008–2009)
After leaving Melissa Ferlaak, the group began to look for a replacement for it, while at the same time writing material for the next, fourth studio album. On September 3, 2008, it was announced that the candidacy of the new vocalist was finally approved, however, her name - Joanna Ninivska - was announced only on February 1, 2009. [one]
On July 29, 2009, it was announced that for health reasons Joanna Ninivska would no longer be able to remain in the group. She was replaced by the Greek woman Maxi Neil, previously known for working with On Thorns I Lay, Moonspell and her previous group Elysion .
Delta and Maria Magdalena (2010-2011)
In May 2010, bassist Mike Koren leaves the band. The new bass player is Mario Lokhert, who previously played in the Emergency Gate. In addition, the group announced the start of the recording of the fourth album, the release of which was scheduled for autumn 2010. In the future, for several reasons, the release date was postponed, and the album “Delta” was released on February 25, 2011.
In July 2011, due to creative controversy, bassist Mario Lockhert left the band. Martin Harb, in an interview on August 4, 2011, said that the group does not plan to look for a replacement for him, and instead will play with a bass player who is not officially assigned to the group. [2] Babis Dia Mageias became the sessional bass player. Less than a month later, the group officially announced the departure of Werner Fiedler, who almost did not take part in the life of the group for almost a year for personal reasons. Christian Hermsdorfer, formerly a session member of the group, became a new guitar player.
On October 21, 2011, the mini album Maria Maria Magdalena was released .
The death of Nicole Bogner and Ethera (2012-2013)
January 6, 2012 "Visions of Atlantis" announced on the pages of social networks Facebook and MySpace that the first vocalist of the group Nicole Bogner died at the age of 27 years after a serious long illness.
On January 27, 2012, the name of the new album was announced - “Ethera” , which was originally planned to be released in 2012, but as a result, its release was postponed to March 22, 2013. It was the first album without an official bass player.
The group dedicated “Ethera” to the memory of Nicole Bogner.
Change of lineup and “The Deep & The Dark” (2013-present)
In December 2013, “Visions of Atlantis” announced on their Facebook page that most of the band members leave it. Only one of its founders remained in the band - drummer Thomas Zaser. The decision of the rest of the band members to leave it was mainly due to the fact that “Visions of Atlantis” were going to return to their classic sound. The group returned to its former members: Werner Fidler (guitar), Chris Kamper (keyboards) and Michael Koren (bass). Clementin Deloni came to the place of Maxi Neal, Siegfried Samer took the place of Mario Planck. [3] . Chris Kamper left the group in 2015. At the end of 2017, Michael Koren was replaced by Herbert Glos, and Werner Fiedler was replaced by Christian Soul.
The next studio album “The Deep & The Dark” was released on February 16, 2018. [four]
