Henry (Prince of Nassau-Dillenburg)

Heinrich Nassau-Dillenburg ( German: Heinrich von Nassau-Dillenburg ; August 28, 1641 , Dillenburg - April 18, 1701 , Ludwigsbrunn Castle) - Prince of Nassau-Dillenburg in 1662-1701. The only son of Prince George Ludwig of Nassau-Dillenburgsky (1618–1656) and his wife Anna Augusta (1612–1673), daughter of the Duke of Heinrich Julius Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttelsky .

Biography

He studied at the Herborn Protestant Academy and in France. After graduation, he served in the Dutch army, where he rose to the rank of colonel .

In 1662, after the death of his grandfather Ludwig Heinrich Nassau-Dillenburgsky, Heinrich inherited the county, since his father had already passed away in 1656 by that time. In 1676, his uncle Adolf Nassau-Schaumburg died without leaving a male heir, and Henry inherited Nassau-Schaumburg.

Heinrich Nassau of Dillenburg unsuccessfully tried to claim the possessions of his deceased father-in-law George III, Duke of Brzeg (1611-1664). Prince Henry was succeeded by the eldest son Wilhelm II of Nassau-Dillenburg , and after the death of Wilhelm II - the youngest son Christian Nassau-Dillenburg .

On October 13, 1663, Heinrich Nassau-Dillenburgsky married Dorothea Elizabeth (December 17, 1646 - June 9, 1691), the only daughter of Duke George III of Brzeg (1611–1664). Their kids:
